... was born in Hamburg (which was in West Germany) in 1954, but when she was three months old her father, who was a Lutheran pastor, received a posting to Quitzow, in the East German state of Brandenburg (between Hamburg and Berlin). The family moved to Timplow, a small town about 56 miles north of Berlin.
